MASCCOM – who we are

Masccom Training Centre is an Upgrading Centre for Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Life Sciences. The school is situated in the North West Province in Mafikeng and is run by the North West Department of Education. Currently the school is the only upgrading centre that falls under the Department of Education. The school accommodates students from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Today, MASCCOM Training Centre is a highly respected upgrading facility amongst its lot. While it has kept pace with the changes and challenges of society, it has also maintained the traditional values of service and personal excellence. The centre has also provided learners with modern working ICT and Physical Sciences/ Life Sciences laboratories. The centre is also in partnership with the North West University in order to produce learners who are eligible for Mathematics, Science, Accounting and Social Sciences. The school accommodates up to 260 Matriculants per year.

Examination

At the end of the year the students sit for an NSC (CAPS) grade 12 final examinations. The subjects that are offered adhere to the NSC (CAPS) syllabus for grade 12. A revised National Senior Certificate will be provided to the school after learners have written exams. The examination is administered by DBE and the certificate issued by Umalusi.

Faculty

The professional stuff are all qualified, experienced and registered with the South African Council of Educators (SACE). The board of directors (advisory board) comprises of members of the MST unit-Department of Education and HR.

Success story

  • The results as a whole are encouraging, when one considers that most of the students enter the programme with level 1 (0- 29%) in Mathematics.
  • The programme has catered for students who eventually became medical practitioners, engineers, educators, policemen, accountants, business entrepreneurs etc.;
  • Over the e the program has serviced +/- 4000 matriculating candidates.
